Located off the northern coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, Holbox (pronounced Hole-Bosh) is a small island that is surrounded by a lush lagoon full of fish. The island itself is super relaxed, fun, and of course gorgeous. The main town square is small and vibrant, full of shops, food, hotels, and more. The locals are friendly and the food is delicious. The island runs east and west and is approximately 26 miles in length. The eastern side is where we will be fishing. There are miles upon miles of uninhabited protected reserves filled with mangroves and untouched beaches. 

The island is supported by tourism and you will find a huge mix of tourists from Europe and South America. The majority of the island is easily walkable. There are no personal cars on the island. You will see some commercial delivery vehicles but 95% of vehicles are golf carts, atvs, and side by sides. Taxis are golf carts and cost roughly $6 to get anywhere in town. Holbox has some of the best food, trust me. I have found a number of very good places from cheap taco joints to nice restaurants. There is nearly zero crime. It is a very safe island– I suppose there is nowhere to run if you do commit a crime.
