The Fishing

We wake up early and take a quick ride to the beach where we will link up with the guides. We will be fishing out of pangas, which are small fishing vessels made specially for polling through shallow water in search of fish. The first hour in the morning is spent on a breathtaking ride as the sun rises along the coast. The guides will keep an eye out for Jack Crevalle and larger tarpon that cruise the coast line. Upon entering the preserve, the guides will navigate through skinny channels in the mangroves and get set up in areas to search for tarpon, permit, and snook. We typically fish 2 anglers per boat with one person fishing at a time. Your guide will pole you through the water and look for tarpon.

.

Once you spot the fish, the game is “on”. Listening to your guide is crucial. They will tell you where the fish are, where to lay your fly, when to strip, and when to set! Tarpon are known for their aerial acrobatics. It is a battle you will never forget. After your arm is sore from wrestling tarpon you will head back to the town and meet up with everyone at Mr. Sandlfeas place. Stories and drinks will be numerous.

We will be fishing with Mr. Sandflea (Alejandro Vega Cruz) and his crew of guides. Our targets will be juvenile tarpon, permit, jack crevalle and snook. Days are approximately 8 hrs. 2 anglers per boat unless you prefer to be solo. Lunch will be provided on fishing days
